The education committee provides information and advice to members seeking professional development, technical training, and credentialing to enhance their career growth. Wethe annual Powerful Facilities Energy Conference, educational lunch and learns, and other activities in coordination with the chapter’s Programs Committee.

Does your workplace offer internships? Are you ready to teach and/or mentor? Or are you ready to expand your FM experience with a 4-year degree in sustainable building?
Opportunity awaits. The latest is a new program at South Seattle Community College. The Sustainable Building Science Technology (SBST) Bachelor of Applied Science program starts in the fall of 2014. Classes are offered evenings, weekends, and online – all accessible for the working FM professional.
IFMA Seattle membership has a history of contributing to the ongoing development of the Facility Management profession through educational opportunities. One of the earliest programs is the University of Washington certificate program in Facility Management. It was designed and taught for many years by Robin Bleeker as a Facility Manager (IFMA), along with Lee Doughty as an Engineer (IFMA) and Judy Gibson as a Property Manager (BOMA).

University of Washington Certificate Program in Facilities Management
Are you looking to build your knowledge and skills as a facility manager while taking steps to prepare for the IFMA CFM credentialing exam? The University of Washington offers a three-course certificate program that imparts comprehensive knowledge of operations, maintenance, budgeting and business planning issues related to facility management. This unique program covers the 11 competencies that make up the complete facility management body of knowledge as identified in the Global Job Task Analysis conducted by IFMA. By completing this program, you can earn up to 60 maintenance points that can be applied to an IFMA Certified Facility Manager credential. Learn more at

Lab Networking Resource
BetterBricks, in partnership with the universities and electric utilities across the Northwest, supports this regional network of design assistance labs. The lab network serves as a technical resource of credible and unbiased information and education to facilitate integration of energy efficient design to achieve high performance buildings.
The labs help building professionals take advantage of the design and financial benefits of energy efficiency to create more productive and comfortable work environments. Each lab can provide a variety of services that include: information on tools and resources available, consultations on climate analysis and appropriate building responses, design consultations for daylighting and electric lighting, and daylighting modeling. Some labs offer additional services such as consultations on HVAC system integration and energy analysis.
