Distinguished Educator
Dean Kashiwagi, PhD, PE
"Crossroads: the Transformation and Survival of the Facility Manager"
FM Internal Marketing Event
Friday, June 18, 2010
The Facility Manager must be in
alignment with their organization’s vision and strategy. However, the ugly truth is
that misfit projects that don’t align with the goals are occurring daily
no matter the industry. Today's turbulent economy adds more fuel to that
fire. What to do? Do you get rid of the project, keep doing the
same thing or create change? Despite all the hype about best
value practices, FMs have seen very little actual improvement.
Meet the best value
expert - Dr. Dean Kashiwagi. This session will introduce an innovative best value delivery
system known as the Performance Information Risk Management System (PIRMS).
PIRMS
can assist Facility Managers and their staff to complete projects
with less work, but yielding better results. We will share case study results
showing how other FMs have used PIRMS successfully. This system has been tested
more than 650 times ($2.5 billion project costs) over 15 years and has
delivered on time results 98% of the time, with high client satisfaction and no
contractor generated change orders.
Dean is a professor at Arizona State University’s Del E Webb School of
Construction and also the Director of the Performance Based Studies
Research Group (PBSRG). His many achievements include receiving a Fulbright
Scholar award to share state-of-the-art facility and project management
research and practices with the people of Botswana, Africa. Dean’s
groundbreaking FM Model of the Future graduate program was put into
practice at ASU and he was instrumental in the investment of US$100
million in the institution. An accomplished author, Dean is also collaborating with the
local IFMA Phoenix Chapter on their FM education efforts. He is also is an
accomplished author. Prior to ASU, Kashiwagi was a Project Engineer for
the US Air Force during his 14 years of military service.
