The IFMA Greater Seattle Chapter is proud to present
The 2009 IFMA Awards of Excellence
Distinguished Educator, Dean Kashiwagi, PhD, PE
"Crossroads: The Transformation and Survival of the Professional Facility
Manager"
>>
Details in Member 'Flash'
The Facility Manager must be in alignment with their company’s vision and
strategy. The ugly truth is that misfit projects that don’t align with the
goals are occurring daily no matter the industry. To add more fuel to the
problems there is today’s turbulent economy. Do you get rid of the project,
keep doing the same thing or create change? FMs have heard all the hype
about best value practices, but seen very little improvements. Meet the best
value expert. This session will introduce innovative best value delivery
system know as the Performance Information Risk Management System (PIRMS)
can assist Facility Manager’s and their personnel to complete projects with
less work, but yielding better results. Case study results shared on how
other FMs have used it successfully. This system has been tested more than
650 times ($2.5 billion project costs) over 15 years and has delivered on
time results, with high client satisfaction and no contractor generated
change orders, 98% of the time.
Dean is a professor at Arizona State University’s Del E Webb School of
Construction and also the Director of the Performance Based Studies Research
Group (PBSRG). His many achievements include receiving a Fulbright Scholar
award to share state-of-the-art facility and project management research and
practices with the people of Botswana, Africa. Dean’s groundbreaking FM
Model of the Future graduate program was put into practice at ASU and he was
instrumental in the investment of US$100 million in the institution.
Currently Dean is collaborating with the local IFMA Phoenix Chapter on FM
education efforts. He is also is an accomplished author. Prior to ASU,
Kashiwagi was a Project Engineer for the US Air Force during his 14 years of
military service.

ensemble are red, white and blue. We know that we will have some golfers who
resemble the GOP elephant, (sans trunk) and others whose behavior will be
Democrat donkey-like, so we’ve got those important election elements covered as
well. For those of you grip n’ grinners with personal political pretensions,
